With an announcement that combines generosity with a clear warning, the United States has committed $2 billion to support UN emergency relief operations. However, this contribution came with a blunt admonition for the international body: it must "change or face irrelevance."
A Significant Pledge Amid Wider Funding Cuts
The pledge was made against a backdrop of significant cuts in American support of global aid. Further cuts are expected from other key donors including European nations.
